Short answer: Yes. Triage Forensics provides video forensic authentication for clients across Australia, examining whether footage is genuine, edited, manipulated or AI-generated, and reporting findings that can be relied on in court.

For what authentication detects and how the analysis works, see our complete guide to video forensic authentication. This page covers the practical side: what to send, how to send it, and what result to expect.

What to send us

The quality of the answer depends heavily on what we receive:

  • The original file, not a copy of a copy. Footage forwarded through messaging apps or social media is usually re-compressed, which strips metadata and hides evidence of editing.
  • Where it came from: the phone, camera, CCTV system or app that recorded it, and who exported it.
  • The chain of handling: who has had the file and how it was transferred.
  • The question in dispute: for example, whether a section has been removed, whether a timestamp is accurate, or whether a person’s face has been altered.

If you only have a screenshot or a social media version, send it anyway. We’ll tell you what can and can’t be concluded from it.

How to send it

Don’t email large video files or re-save them in an editing program. We’ll arrange a secure transfer or collection so the file’s integrity is preserved and documented from the moment it reaches us.

What kind of conclusion to expect

Authentication rarely produces a simple “real” or “fake”. A report typically concludes that the footage is:

  • Consistent with an unedited original from the stated source;
  • Showing signs of editing or manipulation, with the location and nature of each issue identified; or
  • Unable to be authenticated from the material available, with the reasons explained.

That honest framing is what makes the findings credible in court.
